The World Snow Festival in Grindelwald is a celebration of ice-cold art, where international artists from all over the world create figures and sculptures from three-meter-high blocks of snow. The theme for this 41st edition is “Myths and Legends”
The World Snow Festival has developed into one of the most fascinating and popular winter events in the town of Grindelwald at the foot of the Eiger mountain and is now an integral part of the season's program. What began in 1983 with a giant Heidi carved out of snow by Japanese artists has since developed into a cultural event that no one in the village wants to miss.
The teams work on their sculptures for five days from 8:00-18:00. You can watch the artists at work until the sculpture is finished. The participating teams will judge each other's enormous snow sculptures based on the following criteria: timeliness, originality, and skill. The audience can also vote for their favorite sculpture.
Additionally, in the Männlichen ski area, two teams also work every day from 9:00-16:00 to create the impressive shapes out of snow.
This event is free of charge.
