Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen

This concert with the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen unites three masterpieces of Romanticism—colorful, passionate, and touching—in the historic music hall of the Stadtcasino Basel, whose warm acoustics and classicist elegance are internationally acclaimed. On the program:
Bedřich Smetana, “The Moldau” (Symphonic Poem from the cycle “Má vlast,” 1874): The piece represents a musical journey along the Moldau River from its sources in the Bohemian Forest, through castles, villages, night waltzes, and roaring rapids—an orchestral hymn to the Bohemian landscape and identity.
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, op. 23: This concerto is bold, lyrical, and virtuosic; it begins with unforgettable chords and unfolds as a dramatic dialogue between soloist and orchestra. Soloist on this evening is the renowned pianist Lukas Geniušas.
Antonín Dvořák, Symphony No. 9 in E minor, op. 95 “From the New World” (1893): Composed during Dvořák’s time in America, it combines Bohemian melodies with hints of spirituals and indigenous rhythms. The famous Largo, later adapted as the sacred song “Goin’ Home,” expresses deep longing and human universality.
Tickets are CHF 92-127.
