J. Lyssarides & G. Prokopio / E. Duni & R. Luft Balkan Quartet

On this evening, Jazz Festival Basel will be presenting a double concert entitled “Balkan & Greece.”
In this special collaboration between award-winning pianist Joel Lyssarides and Greek bouzouki master Georgios Prokopiou, the two musicians' diverse backgrounds in Swedish, Greek, jazz, and classical music merge into a captivating program. Lyssarides, himself Swedish with Greek roots, joins Prokopiou in exploring the origins of the historic bouzouki, which is deeply intertwined with the traditions of Greek music. With their sensitive touch and unerring artistic intuition, the two succeed in shining a new, contemporary light on the instrument. The result is an impressive evening full of musical depth and emotionally charged soundscapes.
Albanian-Swiss singer Elina Duni is one of the most exciting voices in contemporary jazz. With a unique blend of jazz, chanson, and the sounds of the Balkans and the Mediterranean, she creates a deeply poetic soundscape. Together with British guitarist Rob Luft—her musical alter ego—she writes her entire repertoire herself. Her current quartet is completed by two outstanding musicians from Skopje, Viktor Filipovski (drums), and Kiril Tufekcievski (bass). In her music, Duni impressively combines jazz with the traditional music of her homeland—sensitive, emotional, and full of depth.
Tickets are CHF 37.20-57.60.
