Sensorium
A visit to the Sensorium is an unforgettable experience for the whole family. Here you can learn all about your five senses through a series of over 70 exhibits, experiments, activities, and fun games. Every room has something interesting to explore: You can find your balance, watch the patterns you can create in water with movement and vibration, study a vortex, create beautiful patterns with sand through sound waves, get fooled by optical illusions, feel how your entire body perceives sound, pull off your socks and experience a variety of materials using only your feet, build a stone sculpture with your eyes closed, test your sense of smell, and so much more.
To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Sensorium has expanded its exhibition area to include the theme “Fascination Resonance: Small Impulses—Big Effects.” At around 20 unique stations, waves, echoes, and vibrations can be triggered and experienced in surprising and sophisticated ways. Does the pendulum follow the hands? Can force be seen? Are colors waves? And what do sounds feel like? Vibration can bring us joy or distress, lull us to sleep or cause a bridge to collapse; it creates harmony through symmetry or can cause discomfort through dissonance. Interactive stations are designed to engage the senses and the audience. From fingertips to eyes to ears: in this exhibition, the audience’s senses become the focal point of the experience.
Located in the beautiful rolling hills of Rüttihubelbad, the Sensorium is a great place to spend the day; take along a picnic lunch or spoil yourself at the restaurant and let the kids play in the outdoor playgrounds. The Sensorium can be reached by car in approximately 75 minutes from Basel, or by train in about 2 hours; take the train from Basel SBB to Bern Bahnhof, a second train from Bern to Worb Dorf, and then Postbus 791 (direction Walkringen Bahnhof) to the stop called “Rüttihubelbad.”
Entrance costs CHF 20 for adults, CHF 17 for students, CHF 11 for kids ages 6-15, CHF 5 for kids ages 3-5, and free for holders of the Schweizer Museumspass.
