The Bürgergemeinde Basel (BG; community of the citizens of Basel) is actively involved in social welfare, naturalization and integration, as well as nature and the environment in Basel. As the owner of forest land in the region, BG operates its own forestry business. This year, the BG is celebrating its 150th anniversary and will fittingly host the jubilee celebrations in the Hardwald Forest, located near the city in Birsfelden. It serves as a habitat and recreational area, as well as a symbol of both continuity and change. On this day, everyone is invited to a large forest festival in the Hardwald forest. A highlight of the event will be the presentation of a gift to the community: a forest playground with a large barbecue area, designed specifically for the area. Festivities on this day will include forest trails to explore; forest bathing/pampering programs; educational and discovery programs around the native animals, plants, and trees; creating nature crafts like forest postcards and nature jewelry, forest tattoos, stone painting, and face painting; and a live carving show, tree climbing, log sawing, and operating a forestry tractor with the vice world champion in chainsaw carving and team member in their forestry operation.
In the evening, an open-air festival for everyone takes place in the workshop of the forestry operation at the terminus of tram line no. 3; in the early evening there is music for the little guests by Balz Aliesch and then concerts by Brüder Fërns and Anna Rossinelli.
