The Forgotten Legend of Basel

Offene Kirche Elisabethen
Ongoing Event
Fri., 09 January until Wed., 18 February

On a winter night in 2026, while Basel is preparing for the carnival, the mysterious time regulator turns back the clock. The audience is catapulted back to 1816, the “year without a summer,” when Margaret and Christoph meet to help those most in need. But a mistake tears the great book of time apart, and reality begins to falter.
In 1823, when carnival comes back to life, the two young people meet again. But the rivalries between Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft are rumbling—and the sleeping Basilisk awakens from the depths of the Rhein. Time stands still, and the couple must weave together the torn threads of history once again.
This monumental immersive show combines sound, light, and aerial choreography. Beneath the majestic vaults of the Elisabethenkirche, the legend of Basel comes to life again in a visual and sensual journey, between dream and legend, in the heart of Basel's history. You can check out a video of this special experience at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8oYmDCSFPo.
