Students—this is for you! A call to all young minds: Go beyond your textbooks and question what you think you know. TEDxBasel Youth is your space to explore bold ideas, challenge assumptions, and discover new perspectives. Connect with other students, be inspired, and imagine what becomes possible when learning meets creativity. The event includes the following speakers and topics:
• Kseniia Nikitina: Never let one person speak for millions
Kseniia is 18 years old, born in Ukraine, and moved here in 2018. She is going to high school with a major in economics and law, and along with her friends, she has launched a business as part of their education system. she has participated in regional debating competitions and the SEF business camp.NextGen, and she is a part of the Villars Institute.
• Anoushka Jha: What if caring was cool again?
Anoushka is a Grade 12 student at the ISB. She is passionate about how science, technology, and social impact can come together to help people live healthier and happier lives.
• Vitória André Saias Martins Soares: History didn’t forget women, it edited them out
15-year-old Vitória is curious and motivated. She believes young people can make a difference and hopes to use her voice and creativity to help create positive change. Vitória is passionate about speaking up for women’s rights and never misses a chance to do so.
• Riccardo Volonté: The sweet truth
Riccardo is a 12th grade student at SIS Basel, currently completing his final year. For his Matura Arbeit, Riccardo decided to dive into a sugar free diet, studying the physiological and psychological effects that added sugars have on the human body.
• Alicia Laila Gasser: Little actions—Big impact
Alicia is a 12th grade Gymnasium student in Basel and has been acting and dreams of a career in that field. She also shares great passion for politics and activism and recently became a part of the European Youth parliament. She especially stands up for women and the LGBTQ+ community.
• Sarah Kapasi: The Comparison Trap, a reason to quit or to experiment?
Sarah is a creative and motivated Grade 11 student with interests in art and science and is always looking for new ways to learn and connect with the world around her.
• Pablo Lopez Gonzalez: Your voice won't limit you, your silence will
Pablo is an 11th grade student at the ISB, studying math, physics, and economics. This school year he started a club at his school called “Talk like TED” where he and his fellow students together prepare speeches for upcoming events where speakers would be in need.
• Arsène Herrenschmidt-Picard: You're wasting your practice time. Here's why
Arsène is a 17-year-old graduating student at the SIS Basel. Growing up in a musical family, he quickly took up music, and now he is striving to be the best young saxophonist in Basel. As well as music, he is currently training to win the Swiss rowing championships with his team.
• Mimansa Jhala: The most courageous thing you can do is care when everyone else is just watching
Mimansa is a 9th grade student at the SIS Basel. She has lived in Germany and England prior to moving to Basel 7 years ago. She hopes to study business management in the future at an Ivy League school.
• Jens Thomsen: Most people don’t lack ambition. They’re just playing on too small a field
Jens is a young entrepreneur passionate about the intersection of technology, climate, and education. He is the Director of Operations at Startup Nights Winterthur, Switzerland's largest startup events; built an Al x Climate startup in San Francisco; has conducted research at ETH Zurich on sustainable aviation fuels; is an avid triathlete; and serves as Chair of the Villars Youth Council.
This event will be held in English.
Tickets are CHF 10 for people under age 18 and CHF 20 for general admission.
