The YOUNG STAGE festival is an international circus festival that offers young professional artists from all over the world a platform to present their work to the public, to experts, and to a professional jury, showing them what “contemporary circus” means. It is one of the most important circus festivals worldwide and the largest in Switzerland. YOUNG STAGE stands for a new, innovative, contemporary circus, which is becoming more and more popular in Switzerland. It is well known for its world-class performances, for a contemporary show that rocks, for its hospitality, and for the professional organization.
For this 15th edition, 13 acts from 11 countries on four continents including USA, Germany, Canada, Spain, Ukraine, Finland, Austria, China, Poland, Brazil, and Russia (under a “white flag”) were invited after a rigorous selection process. Selected from a pool of 634 applicants from 57 nations, these artists will compete for the prestigious awards. They will proudly present a variety of acts, including handstand on canes, Cyr wheel, hoop rolling, flying pole with contortion, unicycle and bowls kicking, vertical rope, partner acrobatics, level straps, duo club juggling, trio juggling, diabolo, hair hanging, and comedy hoops.
The young artists perform their acts in each of the six shows. The premiere on Thursday night and the show on Friday and Saturday night will all start at 19:30. Sunday will offer specially priced tickets for kids and families with a matinée (11:00) and an early evening show (18:00). The final show on Monday evening starts at 19:30 and ends with the presentation of the awards and prizes (monetary prizes as well as engagements in well-known circuses and variety- and TV-shows). This last presentation is an exciting mix of energy and emotion as it culminates in life-changing awards for many of the young artists, but be aware that because of the award presentation, it will last about an hour longer than the other shows.
In addition to the competition for young professional artists, an open-air circus spectacle and a circus parcours for kids will take place again this year on April 27 and 28 (check out our calendar entries for details.
Tickets for the evening shows are CHF 52–90 (students get a 10% discount when ordering by email at ticket@young-stage.com). Tickets for families (two adults and one child) are CHF 106-194, and tickets for children up to age 12 are CHF 22–46, valid for the shows on Sunday May 5 (both matinée and evening performance).
