For this edition of Art Basel, the show’s multiple sections will present works by artists ranging from the great masters of modern art to the latest generation of emerging stars. Twenty-one first-time galleries will join a robust line-up of European exhibitors and returning galleries from around the world. The exhibits include the highest-quality paintings, sculptures, drawings, installations, performances, multiples, prints, photographs, magazines, and videos.

The fair is divided into the following sectors:
• In the Galleries sector, visitors can discover a wide range of modern and contemporary art works ranging from drawings, paintings, photographs, prints, and sculptures to installations, videos, and digital art. The 2023 edition of Art Basel will feature 284 leading galleries from across the globe presenting the highest quality of works across all media, from rare and historical masterpieces to new works by today’s emerging artistic voices.
• New this year is the Kabinett sector for curated selections displayed by galleries in a separate section of their booths, including thematic group exhibitions, art-historical showcases, and solo presentations, allowing visitors to dive deeper into an artist's practice. This year’s first edition will host 13 presentations in 14 galleries.
• The Feature sector emphasizes precisely curated projects from established and historical artists that may include solo presentations as well as juxtapositions and thematic exhibits from artists representing a wide range of cultures, generations, and artistic approaches.
• The Statements sector presents exciting new solo projects by emerging artists who are eligible to receive the prestigious Baloise Art Prize.
• In the Editions sector, leading publishers of editioned works, prints, and multiples exhibit the results of their collaborations with renowned artists, including significant and rare publications.
• The Unlimited sector is the pioneering exhibition platform for projects that transcend traditional art-show stands, such as large-scale sculptures and paintings, large-scale installations; video projections; and live performances. Unlimited this year features 76 exceptional projects and an ever-broader range of artistic positions that challenge and expand traditional narratives. Art Basel’s Unlimited Night will return on Thursday, June 15 in Hall 1, providing visitors the chance to experience the sector alongside special performances during extended opening hours, from 19:00-22:00.
• The Parcours sector reaches out into the city itself, with 24 site-specific sculptures, interventions, and performances in and around Basel’s old town that engage with the specificities of space and temporality. The theme for this year’s Parcours is “Word of Mouth” and reflects on the current state of artmaking as a means of expression that translates social and political communication. Parcours is free and accessible on Monday, June 12, from 13:00-20:00; Tuesday, June 13, to Friday, June 16, from 10:00-20:00; Saturday, June 17, from 10:00-23:00; and Sunday, June 18, from 10:00-19:00. On Saturday, June 17, from 18:00-23:00, a special Parcours Night will offer a festive evening filled with live performances in the greater Münsterplatz area. This event is also free to the public. Museums, institutions, and other venues presenting Parcours projects have extended opening hours to provide visitors a unique experience. Food and drinks will be available from various food trucks on the Münsterplatz.
• The Film sector presents Art Basel’s week-long program of films by and about artists, including artists’ surveys, documentaries, and a special program on sci-fi and magical realism. The film program is free to the public and will be screened at Stadtkino Basel from Monday, June 12, to Saturday, June 17.
• In the Magazines sector, art publications from around the world display their magazines in single-magazine stands or the collective booth.
• The Conversation program features dialogues between prominent members of the international artworld, including artists, gallerists, critics, curators, collectors, museum directors, art lawyers, architects, and other cultural players who discuss topics concerning the global contemporary art scene. This year’s program will feature over 50 thought leaders as they discuss key topics shaping the world of art and culture. This edition will focus on the subjects of care, collectivity, and connectivity and will feature panels focusing on artist-led spaces on the African continent, parenthood in the arts, the more inclusive architecture of museums in the future, and the ethical and artistic implications of artificial intelligence and blockchain technology. Conversations will take place June 14-17 in Hall 1. The series is free to attend and will be livestreamed on facebook.com/artbasel/.
• Basel’s Messeplatz will feature an expansive installation by Latifa Echakhch—a French-Moroccan artist who lives in Switzerland and represented Switzerland at the 59th Venice Biennale last year. Echakhch, whose work has been shown in museums and galleries such as the Center Pompidou in Paris or the Tate Modern in London, has a long tradition of working with deconstructed stages—the symbol of rubble and ruins—to express hope and possibility that are in them. Art Basel visitors and passers-by can make art themselves on the exhibition square, where a spacious superstructure will serve as a backdrop for a series of live concerts and performances. The musical acts interrogate the fundamentals of sound and music-making as a shared experience between the artist and the audience. Beyond the performances, the various islands and stage settings will be available for the public to sing, recite poetry, share knowledge, or simply come to rest.

Practical Information
Time: Private days on June 13-14, as well as the vernissage on June 14, are by invitation only. The show is open to the public June 15-18 from 11:00-19:00 daily. There will also be two special night events: Unlimited Night on Thursday from 19:00-22:00 and Parcours Night on Saturday from 18:00-23:00.

Childcare (Art Kids): Art Basel offers a free childcare service where kids from age 4 can enjoy art and recreational activities under the supervision of Familycare Basel professionals while their parents visit the show. The children can participate free of charge in the play and discovery area, where they can also enjoy free fruits, cookies, and beverages. There is also the option, at a small cost, to arrange a child-friendly sandwich and/or pasta meal for children during their visit. Babysitting services on-site are also available for children ages 3 months to 4 years with pre-registration. Tickets: Tickets for Art Basel are exclusively available for purchase in their online ticket shop and entitle the holder to reduced-price admission at Basel art museums during the show. Day tickets for adults are CHF 67 (CHF 35 after 17:00 on Thursday and Friday); reduced-price tickets for students, seniors, and new this year residents of Basel-Stadt are CHF 54. Kids up to age 12 are free when accompanied by a parent. There are also permanent tickets for CHF 230, which are valid for all days, as well as combination tickets for Art Basel and Design Miami/Basel (CHF 97/81); for Art Basel and Unlimited Night (CHF 87); or for Unlimited Night only (CHF 27). Also, the Vernissage+ Card is available for CHF 150, which allows one person access on VIP day (Wednesday) to Unlimited from 11:00-20:00 and to the Vernissage in Hall 2 from 17:00-20:00. Note that all tickets include a day ticket for a return journey on public transportation within Basel (full TNW area) that is valid on the same day as the Art Basel 2023 ticket.
