The Industrienacht Regio Basel (Basel’s Industry Night), which will be taking place once again this year, aims to open up new perspectives on the fascinating world of work in the Basel region. This is one of the most dynamic economic regions in Switzerland with numerous start-ups, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and large global corporations.
Fifty companies from the Port of Basel to Arlesheim and, for the first time, also in Birsfelden will be opening their doors and offering fascinating insights into their daily operations. This year's event is more comprehensive than ever: Visitors can embark on over 230 adventures: guided tours of otherwise inaccessible rooms and areas, hands-on challenges, and numerous opportunities to talk to employees. This year’s diverse industries will allow you to experience the life sciences that are so crucial to the region, the spectacular port logistics, pioneering information and communication technology (ICT), and a wide range of craft businesses from electrical engineering and carpentry to brewing.
A highlight are the behind-the-scenes tours: in the catacombs of Basel SBB train station, on Switzerland's tallest container crane at Contargo, or through the lens manufacturing facility of Optiswiss at Dreispitz. Also impressive are the tours of Delica, Switzerland's second-largest coffee roastery; the Novartis factory buildings in the Klybeck area; and the costume department and workshops of Theater Basel. The flow of goods by road, rail, and water becomes tangible on tours at Felix Transport in Arlesheim and at companies like the port railway, Ultra-Brag, and Rhenus Port Logistics in the Swiss Rhein ports of Birsfelden and Kleinhüningen.
A culinary journey awaits you in the Sutter Begg bakery, the Vinigma wine cellar, at the Volta Bräu brewery, or at the Walzwerk distillery in Münchenstein, where gin is distilled. Bayer, Roche, Labor Rothen, and ten23 Health offer insights into their laboratories and showcase the diversity of the life sciences. At IWB, you can learn how energy, water, and data reach your homes; at Swisscom, you can explore a network node and internet backbone; and at the Swiss Nanoscience Institute, you can discover the world in miniature. Stücki Park presents a concentrated dose of innovation: from drug manufacturing (Lonza) and implant development (Medartis) to the laboratories of the future (Superlab).
The Industrienacht also offers hands-on experiences for those who want to try things out for themselves. Thus, participants can solder flashlights, saw wood for birdhouses, print T-shirts, build light switches, shoot hockey pucks into virtual goals, and splice fiber optics. Furthermore, it's easy to get information about career opportunities from employees. For young people, the Industrienacht is a great opportunity to experience different professions and discover their own interests.
A handy program booklet accompanies visitors throughout the evening. It provides an overview of the shuttle lines, includes brief descriptions of the companies' programs, and important information about ticket sales. The program booklet is available at advance ticket sales points, Kulturbox locations, all participating companies, and at the box office. On the website, program items can be filtered and customized according to interest, language, and format. The favorites list can be shared with friends and printed at home.
To find out about the 230+ program items, visit https://industrienacht.com/en/programm and discover the 50 participating companies at https://industrienacht.com/en/standorte.
