Cheese Festival

Barfüsserplatz
Saturday, 01 October
9:00-17:00

This festival is a feast for the palate of all lovers of the popular Swiss specialty—cheese! In the middle of the city, producers will present a large selection of milk and cheese delicacies. Additionally, a show dairy will demonstrate its craft; young and old can compete in cow milking; and in the festival restaurant, regional cheese dishes will take care of the physical well-being of the guests!
Swiss cheese can look back on a long tradition. In fact, the Tete de Moine—the well-known cheese that is scraped in a circular fashion—already existed before the Swiss Confederation was founded. It has its origins in Bellelay Abbey, which was documented in connection with cheese as early as the 12th century. The monks used the cheese to pay the annual interest owed. You can find out more about this in the Swiss cheese chalet and the cheese tower of sound.
This event is free.
