International Tango Festival

Various Locations

Visitors and tango enthusiasts from around the world will come to Basel to enjoy this year’s 26th international tango festival and marathon called “OsterTango” (Easter Tango). This five-day festival offers after-hours tango parties, concerts, tango night, numerous dance performances, a shop of tango accessories, seminars, workshops, and many different classes for various dance styles and levels of skill. The marathon, like the festival, begins on Thursday at 21:00 with the opening "Tango luminoso!" in the large ballroom of the Volkshaus Basel and ends on Monday at midnight. The Hyperion Ensemble with Marisol Martinez, Otros Aires, and Bandonegro Orquestra with Juan Villarreal will be playing live. The popular presenter from Buenos Aires Pepa Palazón leads through the nights.
This year’s classes and workshops will be held in various locations in Kleinbasel, including the Kunsterei, restaurant zum Rebhaus, Waisenhaus Aula, and Wettsteinhof. All sites are located within a 10-minute walk of each other and the festival’s center at the Volkshaus. They offer tango classes for those with 2 years, 4 years, or at least 6 years of experience, as well as classes just for beginners at the Kunsterei. So, if you have always been interested in tango, here is the perfect chance to give it a try. You can visit their German/English website for a full program of events, classes, seminars, and locations; register directly online.
Day passes are CHF 40 (Thursday), CHF 50 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), and CHF 30 (Monday).
