“Bildrausch” (drunk on images) is a name, a credo. Driven by a furious desire for overwhelming cinema, memorable encounters, and creative surprises, this intimate international film festival champions the passionate exploration of today’s relevant auteur cinema. Bildrausch explores the hidden corners of film history and looks into the future of the seventh art. Fearless experiments, artful installations, and musical interventions complete the multifaceted cinematic landscape. The result is a representation of the world that is as authentic as it is artificial.
The festival focuses on the burning social and political issues of our time. In films and discussions, urgent questions are examined from different angles—it is not primarily about answers, but about the diversity of perspectives. The theme of the 2026 edition of Bildrausch is “We walk with confidence, and you?” In times of global uncertainty, a confident outlook is a risk—but it is precisely in this space that cinema unfolds its magic. Filmmakers show us how we can remain capable of action with courageous and tender stories. They bring the invisible to light and transform fleeting possibilities into thrilling film stories. You can find inspiration that not only moves you, but also spurs you on to take action. Confidence is a verb. It flickers in the moment of experience, in the darkness of the cinema and in the fire of exchange.
The “Film Program” explores the power of vision—the unconditional belief in the vision of artists. There will be films that ignore convention and follow their own inner necessity—sometimes as a loud confrontation, sometimes as a quiet, meditative echo. It is a program for the courageous, an invitation to view the world through a foreign prism. In this panorama of possibilities, there are moments of confidence: they can be found in delicate cherry blossom branches as well as in cool algorithms, in the longing of a coyote or the nervous encounter with an idol.
The festival is completed by a supporting program with film talks, panel discussions, readings, concerts, exhibitions, and performances. It builds personal bridges between the filmmakers and audience members and creates an inspiring, charming, and relaxed atmosphere for you to encounter the arts. Visit their German/English website for the full details of the program, to learn more about the films that will be presented, and to purchase your tickets.
The festival will take place inside and outside of the Stadtkino Basel (Klostergasse 5, 4051 Basel), the Kult.Kino Atelier (Theaterstrasse 7, 4051 Basel), Foyer Public Theater Basel (Theaterstrasse 9, 4051 Basel), the Refektorium Offene Kirche Elisabethen (Elisabethenstrasse 14, 4051 Basel), as well as 12 other locations.
Single tickets are CHF 18 for adults, CHF 13 for students, and CHF 22 for solidarity tickets. Day passes are CHF 45/36/50, and festival passes are CHF 80/60/100. All tickets are available in advance online and at the Stadtkino Basel box office; individual tickets can also be purchased at the kult.kino atelier.
