Lange Nacht der Kirchen (Long Night of the Churches)

Churches are different from what many believe—they can be colorful, creative, and original. This shared ecumenical night symbolizes the fruitful, respectful ecumenical cooperation between the regional churches, which repeatedly leads to inspiring ideas. For several years now, churches in Austria and other European countries have been opening their doors, gates, and steeples. The first "Long Night of the Churches" took place in Vienna in 2005. In 2016, the regional churches of Aargau brought the ecumenical event to Switzerland for the first time, opening around 80 churches throughout the canton to the entire population on the evening of September 17, 2016.
The proven concept, which brought over 10,000 to 50,000 people, women, men, and children, to the participating churches in each of the four editions in 2016, 2018, 2021, and 2023, will be continued in 2025, building on the valuable preparatory work and the great commitment of the many volunteers. Under the coordination of the cantonal churches, church congregations and parishes have free rein to implement their own ideas to make their church come alive during this long night and to offer a special kind of celebration. The aim is to provide insight into how churches are involved in social life today, whether through experiences and oases for the search for meaning, through social and charitable projects, or through opportunities for the exchange of opinions and experiences.
Simply show up and join in! You don't need any prior knowledge, and you certainly don't need to be shy—you're sure to find something suitable among the various events! The churches want to offer their visitors the opportunity to get involved without any obligation—whether you just want to take a quick look or delve deeper into a topic is entirely up to you.
Admission is free and no ticket or registration is required.
