Commemoration of Victims of Crans-Montana Fire on Friday

Friday, January 9, will be considered a Swiss-wide day of mourning for the victims of the tragic fire on New Years’ Eve in Crans-Montana that claimed the lives of at least 40, mostly young, people and injured more than 100 individuals. Shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic events, the canton of Basel-Stadt and members of the government council and the grand council will commemorate the victims of the fire disaster on Friday. They will gather in front of the Rathaus on the Marktplatz at 14:00 for a five-minute ringing of the church bells and a minute of silence. The public is cordially invited to join in this shared act of mourning and solidarity.

On Friday evening at 19:00, an ecumenical service will be held at the Elisabethenkirche with Bishop Felix Gmür and Pastor and Church Council President Lukas Kundert. Government Councilor Tanja Soland will also address the attendees.
