Brooklyn Rider — Upon One Note

"Too many notes!" is how Mozart is said to have once judged a piece by another composer. This leads to the assumption that Mozart would have really enjoyed Henry Purcell's "Fantasia upon one note," as it is based on just one note. The note C is heard throughout the entire piece, over which Purcell spins an imaginative web of melodies and harmonies. But C is not only central in the Englishman Purcell's baroque composition—it runs like a thread through the entire concert evening with the Brooklyn Rider quartet. Mozart's "Dissonance Quartet" and Arvo Pärt's "Solfeggio" both originate from a single C, from which the rest of the music subsequently develops. And C is also essential in Brahms' String Quartet No. 1, as the piece is in the fateful key of C minor. In addition, the note C corresponds to the lowest open string of the cello and viola and thus represents the basic frequency of the string quartet.
Tickets are € 31-49.
