Eulirio Chamber Concerts — British Isles

The year 2025 marked the 80th anniversary of the death of composer, researcher, and passionate collector of folk songs, Béla Bartók. He was exemplary of an entire generation of musicians who not only documented the melodies of the people but also transformed them into art music, thereby revitalizing them. Percy Grainger and Ralph Vaughan Williams can be considered Bartók's spiritual successors in the systematic study of folk music. Grainger, a native Australian, collected material in various regions, including Scandinavia, Great Britain, and America. He was also a virtuoso pianist and successful concert performer, bringing his arrangements of folk melodies to international stages—a symbol of the “union of opposites” (popular/cultured, nature/culture) that underlies the concept of this concert series. Vaughan Williams was strongly influenced by English Baroque music and British folk songs, marking a break in English musical culture, which at the time was dominated by German influence. His encounter with Ravel, crucial to this development, connects him to Frank Bridge, who also collaborated with the French composer and passed on his artistic legacy to Benjamin Britten.
Tickets are CHF 35 for adults, CHF 12 for students, and free for kids up at age 12.
