Sergio Sayeg (aka Sessa) is fascinated by the "chaos" of music, "the distorted translations that music undergoes on its journey." A cultural cannibal in the style of the legendary Brazilian Tropicalistas of the late 60s, Sessa seamlessly and uncompromisingly blends musical references from rock and jazz to samba and soul.
A native of São Paulo with a stint in New York City, Sessa expands the sonic universe he has been building since his 2019 debut with his new album, "Pequena Vertigem de Amor" (Lil' Vertigo of Love). "A bit more nocturnal, more open, quirkily funky," the album channels the smooth sophistication of the late 1970s Brazilian MPB scene, blended with the psychedelic soul of Sly Stone and Shuggie Otis, without straying from Sessa’s signature sound of acoustic guitar, Afro-Brazilian percussion, and the interplay between his distinctive vocals and backing vocals.
Sessa will be supported by Malummí. They are an indie rock trio from Basel whose sound oscillates between fragile intimacy and explosive energy. They will also perform as a duo for the opening act. In their lyrics, they tell of unprocessed childhood memories and question societal structures.
