John Scofield Duets With Gerald Clayton

Reithalle Kaserne Basel
Sunday, 03 May
18:15

On this evening, Jazz Festival Basel will be presenting two separate concerts under the title “Groovy and Funky.” John Scofield, alongside Mike Stern, Bill Frisell, and Pat Metheny, is arguably one of the most important guitarists in American jazz. In 1982, he began a three-and-a-half-year collaboration with Miles Davis, characterized by improvisational and funky jazz. In 1989, Scofield founded a band with saxophonist Joe Lovano, usually performing as a quartet or quintet, which is among the most prominent representatives of funk-jazz.
Scofield's recognizable tone is characterized by a slightly distorted sound. He often plucks the strings unusually close to the bridge. His trademark is also his extremely precise timing with a pronounced laid-back playing style, in which he creates connected melodic phrases using legato.
On this evening, he will be joined by Dutch-born American jazz pianist and composer, Gerald Clayton, who has been nominated for multiple Grammy awards.
Tickets are CHF 68.80-89.90. Consider buying a combo-ticket for CHF 96.90-127.90, which includes this concert and that of Nubya Garcia & Band on the same evening.
