Having grown up amidst the wild, mountainous landscape of Ireland's west coast, Maria Somerville produces music inspired by that very landscape. Now living in Dublin, she has distilled the melancholy and homesickness of that landscape into her own unique musical style: atmospheric dream-pop with ambient and folk influences, lyrical vignettes, and electronic sounds.
Somerville's new album, "Luster," an otherworldly yet grounded record featuring the atmospheric and shimmering singles "Spring" and "Garden," reflects her experiences on the banks of the Corrib in her native Connemara, Ireland, and is an homage to the soundscape of the classic 4AD collective This Mortal Coil. In the short time since its release, the album has garnered numerous accolades.
Somerville is supported by Basel-based artist Alexia Thomas. With her blend of experimental elements, electronic sounds, precise cinematic sound design, and English lyrics, Thomas's music transports you from everyday life and allows you to explore unknown worlds. Anyone open to unconventional music that moves outside the mainstream will find something to love in Thomas's work. She moves effortlessly through the realms of indie and dream pop. Where does reality end, where does fantasy begin, and what lies in between? Thomas explores these questions in her music by combining electronic and acoustic sounds, bringing together different dimensions. There is no clear direction, no sharp edges, no fixed rules—Thomas's music is like herself: open to everything. Doors open at 20:00 and the concert starts at 20:45.
Tickets are CHF 26.50; CHF 21.40 for students.
