Sino-Swiss Art Ambassador Competition: Digital Exhibition

Galerie Sechs will host the Sino-Swiss Art Ambassador Competition (SSAA) digital exhibition on 1 October 2025, showcasing 40 outstanding youth paintings from Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, and Switzerland. Presented on high-quality digital displays, the exhibition introduces a new generation of voices whose lines and colors build a shared visual grammar across cultures—where East and West meet on the canvas and imagination becomes a bridge.
Launched in April 2025 to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Swiss Confederation, SSAA is a cross-cultural initiative that invites young creators to use art as a medium for dialogue. The competition champions the deeper values of arts education—cultivating aesthetic awareness, cultural understanding, and original thought—while encouraging students to respond to social, natural, and technological themes.
Entrants created work around five prompts: “Between Mountains and Seas,” “If Dreams Could Glow,” “Colors That Speak,” “Future Post Office,” and “I Gave the Earth a Little Magic." From a large pool of submissions, the SSAA committee selected a finalist group; 40 works from these finalists have been curated for Basel as a concise digital presentation at Galerie Sechs.
SSAA’s finalist roster and first digital public showcase were unveiled on 19 June 2025 during Greater Bay Area–Switzerland Economic Cooperation (Dongguan) Forum, coinciding with the China visit of Isabelle Moret, Minister of Economy, Innovation, Labour and Heritage of the Canton of Vaud, and in the presence of Jürg Burri, Ambassador of Switzerland to China, and Markus Thür, Consul General of Switzerland in Guangzhou. The program then toured Wuhan (26–30 June 2025) and Qidong Art Museum in Jiangsu (1–15 July 2025) before preparing this Basel presentation.
SSAA deepens Sino-Swiss cultural exchange by fostering dialogue and collaboration among youth creators, strengthening people-to-people ties, and building durable intercultural understanding and trust. Through the competition, touring exhibitions, and public-facing activities, the initiative also seeks to expand art’s social impact in both countries and to inspire broader public engagement with contemporary art.
