Theaterplatz Festival — The Neighborhood is Celebrating Culture

The Theaterplatz, with its steps, levels, and the world’s most famous carnival fountain by Jean Tinguely, will be transformed into the “Theaterplatz neighborhood,” where various local cultural institutions will provide a lively and polyphonic cultural venue right in the heart of Basel.
Theater Basel and the neighboring cultural institutions—Historisches Museum Basel, kult.kino, Kunsthalle Basel, Literaturhaus Basel, Offene Kirche Elisabethen, S AM Schweizerisches Architekturmuseum, Sinfonieorchester Basel, Stadtcasino Basel, Stadtkino Basel, and the bird’s eye jazz club—want to celebrate the opening of this event with you! They will be opening their doors to the public on Saturday September 17 for a whole day full of performances, happenings, concerts, food stalls, and signature drinks on and around the Theaterplatz. There will be 60-minute guided tours through all the cultural institutions in the area, past trees and fountains, up to a site with beautiful views, and down into underground canals; the free tours start every 30 minutes from 11:00-17:00 at the Infopoint Theaterplatz & Neptunplatz. Two of the tours, at 13:00 and 15:00 will be held in English and depart from the Infopoint Theaterplatz.
The Theater Basel offers numerous activities in their foyer, including their popular flea market sale of used costumes, from everyday wear to extravagant designs, from 11:00-16:00. Other events take place outside on Theaterplatz, at Neptunplatz, and the various participating institutions. For the full program, check their website!
Admission is free.
