On this evening, Jazz Festival Basel will be presenting a concert entitled “Soul-Jazz.”
China Moses, born in Los Angeles in 1978, is an American R&B and jazz singer. She is the daughter of jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater and film and television director Gilbert Moses. In 1996, she released her first single, "Time," an R&B song in French; the music video for the song was directed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino, known primarily as a fashion photographer. Her debut album, "China," followed. In addition to recording two further solo albums in 2000 and 2004, she has also collaborated with Meshell Ndegeocello, Guru, Étienne de Crécy, DJ Mehdi, and Diam's.
Modern, swinging, and timelessly spiritual, Moses finds herself on "Nightintales." She credits her producer for this self-discovery. Anthony Marshall, who had previously worked with pop and soul artists such as Nelly Furtado and Craig David, made it clear to her that she should fully trust her musical and cultural background. He then brought her together with accompanying musicians whose roots lay in the church.
Tickets are CHF 47.40-89.90.
