After approval by the price regulator, Swiss Post has raised their prices for letters and parcels (both regular and registered), as of January 1, 2024. The increases had become necessary because of the continuing decline in mail volumes and over-the-counter transactions, as well as the current inflation, all of which have considerably increased Swiss Post’s expenses for energy, transport, materials, and salaries. As a result, prices for domestic postage are now as follows:

• A-post letters in standard format up to B5, thickness of up to 2 cm, and weighing up to 100 g cost CHF 1.20 (previously CHF 1.10), and B-post letters cost CHF 1.00 (previously CHF 0.90).
• “Midi letters” are now classified as having up to B5 format, thickness of up to 2 cm, and weighing between 101 g and 500 g and cost CHF 1.70 for A-post and CHF 1.40 for B-post. The previous limit for “midi letters” was 250 g, everything heavier was considered a large letter; thus, B5 letters weighing over 250 g will now be cheaper.
• For large letters (up to format B4) there is new also only one weight category (from 1 g to 1000 g) , with a cost of CHF 2.50 for A-post and CHF 2.00 for B-post. Thus, large letters weighing over 500 g have become cheaper (eg, A-post now is CHF 2.50 instead of CHF 4.10).
• For parcels, prices are based on weight and there are now only three weight categories: up to 2 kg, up to 10 kg, and up to 30 kg. A parcel up to 2 kg now costs CHF 8.50 (increased from CHF 7.00) for Economy and CHF 10.50 (up from CHF 9.00) for Priority delivery.

The costs for international postage have also gone up. Standard letters (up to 20 g) are now CHF 1.90 to Europe (Zone 1) and CHF 2.50 to all other countries (Zone 2). The cost of sending parcels internationally has also increased, and is dependent on the size, weight, and Zone. While most costs have increased, there are some cost-saving novelties this year. For instance, customers who create the shipping labels of their parcels online (https://www.post.ch/paketetiketten), through the Swiss Post app, or at the My Post 24 machines will now benefit from a fixed discount of CHF 1.50 per parcel. Customers can also now send standard letters and “midi letters” with a thickness between 2 cm and 5 cm as “letters with format surcharge,” with a surcharge of CHF 2.00 per consignment rather than as a more expensive parcel.

As of January 1, you can buy stamps with the new values. However, the old stamps also still remain valid; simply purchase stamps with values of 5, 10, or 20 Rappen to bridge the difference between the previous and new prices.
