Regional Guided Hiking Tours in English

Switzerland has about 65,000 km of marked hiking trails, including more than 1,000 km in Basel-Stadt and Baselland alone. They are generally well marked by the yellow hiking signs and other markings along the paths, allowing you to explore the country at your leisure. This network of trails and their sings are maintained through a lot oof voluntary work done in cantonal organizations, supported by the umbrella organization “Schweizer Wanderwege” (Swiss hiking trails).

In the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basellandschaft, the “Wanderwege beider Basel” association is responsible for these tasks. About 50 volunteers also offer other services for hikers, such as guided hikes. In their annual program, you will find a large number of guided hikes in various parts of Switzerland. Around 2,400 members, friends, and sponsors support them with their work. So if you enjoy hiking Swiss trails, consider becoming a member for just CHF 40 per year for individual members or CHF 60 for families.

“Wanderwege beider Basel” also offers guided hikes, and you are welcome to join them on any of their 60 guided hikes all over Switzerland, if the German language is not an obstacle. However, they also offer a few guided tours in English! The Basel region is home to numerous international companies and thus a lot of expats. The association would like to introduce their fellow residents from all over the world to the Basel region on foot, in English. Hanspeter Preiswerk is an experienced hiking leader who worked in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry for many years. He and other guides will be offering hikes in English for free. Download the PDF below for more information or check out their website at https://www.wanderwege-beider-basel.ch/de/aktuelles; you can register directly for the hikes with at hanspeter.preiswerk@teleport.ch.
