VivaCello Festival VivaSound II — Dvořák, Martinů and Smetana
After a four-year break, the fabulous VivaCello Festival is back! This edition, which is called "Furiant," will take place once again in the old town of Liestal with a total of 13 concerts, including atmospheric morning concerts in the Mooi restaurant, after-work concerts in the Kulturscheune, and symphony and chamber concerts in the Stadtkirche that tell of the rich musical culture of Bohemia. The Bohemian dance "Furiant," which means "enthusiastic," sets the standard for the music and protagonists of this festival that is all about the cello.
On this evening, works by three exceptional heavyweights—Antonín Dvořák, Bohuslav Martinů, and Bedrich Smetana—will be performed. All of the works deserve to be famous, but only two are. The trios by Smetana and Dvořák are among the evergreens par excellence on classical stages. Both are unusual in form—narrative, autobiographical, and profound. Oddly enough, Martinů's piano quartet is rarely played. The first notes are extremely fascinating, then the composer takes the listener on an adventure tour, before ending brilliantly and cheerfully, leaving one wishing to have discovered it sooner.
Tickets are CHF 40 for adults, CHF 20 for students until age 26, and CHF 5 for accompanying kids up to age 12.
