60 Years in the Groove
With his art, Swiss composer Dieter Ammann is reminiscent of a mountaineer in search of extremes. From the nightly meticulous writing of notes with pencil and eraser to the rousing performance of his works in the concert hall, his path is a great adventure. His works—complex scores with a rich inner life—almost burst with pulsating energy and tonal fantasy and convey a completely physical listening experience that is very rare in contemporary music.
On the occasion of his 60th birthday, the Basel Sinfonietta honors this Ammann with a concert evening dedicated to his meticulously notated music, which moves in a field of tension between the highest degree of sophistication and raw vitality. In addition, Ammann's importance as a composition teacher is acknowledged with the world premieres of two orchestral pieces by his students Aregnaz Martorsyan and Alsu Nigmatullina.
Tickets are CHF 33-75 for adults, CHF 17-38 for students under age 25, and CHF 5 for kids up to age 12.
